• Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
• Power the phone off and take out the S Pen and SIM tray before you open it.
• The back glass is glued on. Warm the edges gently with the iOpener in short bursts, as too much heat can damage the battery, then lift a corner with the suction cup or iSclack and slice the adhesive with a pick no more than 3 to 5mm in, or you can cut the fingerprint, wireless charging coil or antenna cables. Unplug the fingerprint sensor cable before you lift the glass away, and go gently at the curved edges, where the glass can crack.
• Always track your screws (Phillips #00) so they go back in the right place. Draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to it, or use a screw mat
• Always unplug the battery before you remove any other parts. Keep metal tools away from the battery, and never bend, crush or puncture it.
• Move the motherboard, charging board, cameras, earpiece, loudspeaker, wireless charging coil, sensors and flex cables from your old frame into the new one. The battery is not included and is glued in: loosen its adhesive with isopropyl alcohol and lift it slowly with a plastic card, never prying against the cell, and stick it into the new frame with fresh battery adhesive, or fit a new battery.
• Test the display, touch, S Pen, rear fingerprint reader, cameras and calls before you close the phone up, and leave the protective film and stickers on until the new screen is working properly.
• Opening the phone breaks the factory water resistance seal. No adhesive comes in the box: fit a strip of 2mm Tesa tape where the old adhesive was, then press the back glass down all the way round so it sits flat and stays secure.
