Here are some helpful tips to assist you in completing a safe repair on your device. If you are unsure of something or have any questions, please feel free to contact us either by phone (0508 IGADGET) or by email
- Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
- Power the phone off and take out the SIM tray before you open it.
- Warm the edges of the plastic back cover gently with the iOpener in short bursts, as too much heat can damage the battery, then work a pick around the edge to release it, no more than 3 to 5mm in, or you can cut the antenna, side key or camera cables.
- Always track your screws (Phillips #00) so they go back in the right place. Draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to it, or use a screw mat
- Always unplug the battery before you remove any other parts. Keep metal tools away from the battery, and never bend, crush or puncture it.
- Remove the board cover over the display connector and disconnect the display cable with the spudger. The old screen is glued to the front of the frame. Warm it in short bursts and work picks in from the front, with an opening card or the iPlastix to hold the gap, keeping them shallow so you don't push into the backlight layers or the front camera. Thread the display cable out through the frame as it lifts away.
- Pick the old adhesive off the frame with the tweezers, then clean the rest off with isopropyl alcohol so the new screen sits flat.
- Connect and test the new screen before gluing it in: thread its cable through the frame, plug it and the battery in, then check the display, touch and side-key fingerprint reader before unplugging the battery. Leave the protective film and stickers on until the new screen is working properly.
- Run a thin bead of B7000 around the frame, clear of the cable cutout, then press the screen down evenly and hold it in place while the glue sets.
- Fit a strip of 2mm Tesa tape where the old back adhesive was and press the back cover down all the way round, so it sits flat.
