• Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
• Always power down your device prior to working on it
• Track your screws on a screw mat or tape them to a drawing of your phone. This phone has two 6.7mm pentalobe screws, 1.2mm Y000 screws on the battery and display brackets, and 1.3mm, 1.5mm, 1.6mm and 2.3mm Phillips screws inside. Keep each set separate
• Heat the bottom edge and insert picks no more than 3mm deep under the plastic bezel (not between bezel and LCD), avoiding the right-hand edge (display cables). Slide the screen towards the Lightning port to free the top clips, then open it to the right like a book
• Always unplug the battery before you remove any other parts. Keep metal tools away from the battery, and never bend, crush or puncture it. The battery connector cover is held by three 1.2mm Y000 screws. Unplug the battery first, then the display, touch and front sensor cables
• Carefully transfer the earpiece and sensor flex cable from your old screen - use a spudger to gently pry underneath the flex cable to loosen the glue. If the flex cable breaks, you will lose Face ID features. Watch the video above before attempting removal
• Test the display, touch, Face ID and the proximity sensor (during a call) before sealing the phone, and don't peel off the protective film or any stickers until it's all working
• Fit the new screen adhesive from the box. The iPhone XR is water resistant from the factory, but water resistance cannot be guaranteed once the phone has been opened
• Once the repair is finished, turn True Tone on in Settings > Display & Brightness (iOS 18 or later)
