• Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
• Always power down your device prior to working on it, and take out the SIM card tray first
• Always track your screws to avoid putting back in the wrong place and damaging your device. You can draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat
• The plastic back cover is glued on. Warm the edges with the iOpener, lift the cover with the suction cup and slide an opening pick around the edge. Do not overheat the phone: the screen, battery and plastic back cover are all damaged by heat, so work in short bursts.
• Only push an opening pick 4 to 5mm past the edge. Any deeper and you can cut the antenna cable, the power button cable or the rear cameras.
• Make sure you always unplug the battery before attempting any component removal
• The charging port board sits under the lower plastic cover with the loudspeaker at the bottom of the phone. Remove its screws and lift it off to reach the board.
• The board connects to the main board with a long flex cable. Disconnect it at both ends with a spudger, and press both connectors back down until they click when refitting.
• Reconnect the aerial (coaxial antenna) cables and make sure the board's grounding contacts sit against the frame when refitting, or the phone may lose signal after the repair.
• Test charging, the headphone jack and the microphone before you seal the phone.
• Opening the phone breaks the factory seal. Fit new adhesive (a strip of 4mm Tesa tape where the old adhesive was) when you close it up or the phone will lose its water resistance rating.
