This MacBook Pro 16" (2021-2023) replacement battery is what you need to bring your dead MacBook Pro back to life!
Battery degradation is an inevitable part of your MacBook Pro's lifespan. If your laptop won't turn on, turns off suddenly, shows "Service Recommended" in Battery settings, has had water damage or simply won't hold a charge, this replacement battery may be what you need to fix it.
It suits the 16-inch MacBook Pro A2485 from 2021 (M1 Pro and M1 Max) and the A2780 from January 2023 (M2 Pro and M2 Max). It replaces battery model A2527. The November 2023 M3 model (A2991) takes a different battery.
Don't be let down by poor quality cheap batteries. Our high quality aftermarket battery is built with a ternary battery cell, safety chipsets and high grade cabling to give you years of trouble free charging.
The battery is held by stretch-release adhesive strips, and new strips come in the box. The trackpad has to come out first. Watch the video and follow the step by step guide in Installation Help before you start.
Part Includes:
- Ternary Battery Cell
- Safety chipsets and PCB board

Remember
After completing your repair, calibrate your newly installed battery by charging it to 100% and then charging for a further two hours. Use your MacBook until it shuts off due to low battery, and finally, charge it uninterrupted to 100% again
Here are some tools you may need to help you complete the repair.
- iGadget Plastic Triangle Opening Picks (set of 5)
- 5x iGadget Plastic Flexible Opening Cards
- iGadget Plastic Alcohol 200mL Bottle with Pump Top
- iGadget Universal Magnetic Work Project Mat with Marker (30cm x 25cm)
Here are some helpful tips to assist you in completing a safe repair on your device. If you are unsure of something or have any questions, please feel free to contact us either by phone (0508 IGADGET) or by email
- Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or explode if punctured or damaged
- These MacBook Pros can power on by themselves when the lid opens or a charger is connected. On macOS Sequoia or later, run sudo nvram BootPreference=%00 in Terminal (undo afterwards with sudo nvram -d BootPreference). Power down, and on older macOS keep the lid closed until the battery is disconnected
- The P5 pentalobe, T3 and T5 Torx screwdrivers you need are included in the box with this battery.
- Always track your screws to avoid putting back in the wrong place and damaging your device. You can draw a picture of your laptop and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat
- The bottom case is held by eight P5 pentalobe screws (four 9.1 mm and four 5-6 mm) plus hidden clips. Lift the front edge with a suction cup, slide a pick around the sides to release the clips, then pull the case toward the front to free the sliding clips at the back
- Before any component removal, peel the tape off the battery data cable, flip up the ZIF lock and slide the cable out. Then remove the 3.9 mm T5 pancake screw and lift the battery connector clear of its socket
- Remove the trackpad cable bracket (two 2.1 mm screws) and disconnect the trackpad. The trackpad has to come out (T5 screws of two lengths, 5 mm and 5.8 mm, so keep them apart)
- Remove the two T5 screws holding the battery board
- Pull each stretch-release strip slowly, low and flat. If one snaps, add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol under the cell, wait a minute or two, and lift with a plastic card. Keep the alcohol away from the speakers
- Never pry against a cell with metal tools, and never bend, squeeze or puncture the cells when removing the old battery or fitting the new one
- The new adhesive strips come in the box. Fit them to the new battery, press each cell down, and refit the trackpad screws loosely before tightening so it lines up
- If your newly installed battery is draining fast or shutting off randomly, first try the battery calibration steps found here. Apple silicon Macs have no SMC reset - shut down, wait 30 seconds and restart
Caution
If the new battery or the battery in your device is swollen or damaged during repair, take the proper precautions
Note
You cannot dispose of old batteries in your general waste. Find recycling e-waste centres online or take to your local refuse station.
