This MacBook Air 13" Retina (2018-2020) replacement battery is what you need to bring your dead laptop back to life!
Battery degradation is an inevitable part of your MacBook Air's lifespan. If your laptop won't turn on, turns off suddenly, has a "service battery" warning, has had water damage or simply won't hold a charge, this replacement battery may be what you need to fix it.
It suits the Retina MacBook Air 13" with the black bezel and Touch ID: the A1932 from Late 2018 and 2019, and the Intel A2179 from 2020. It replaces battery model A1965.
Don't be let down by poor quality cheap batteries. Our high quality aftermarket battery is built with a Pure Cobalt battery cell, safety chipsets and high grade cabling to give you years of trouble free charging.
The cells come fitted to the metal battery tray with the control board and flex attached. New adhesive strips come in the box. The battery is held by T3 screws and six pull-tab adhesive strips. On the 2018 and 2019 models the logic board has to come out first; on the 2020 A2179 it can stay in. Watch the video and follow the step by step guide in Installation Help before you start.
Part Includes:
- Pure Cobalt Battery Cell
- Safety chipsets and PCB board
- High Grade cabling and connectors
- Metal battery tray pre-attached
- 12 Month Warranty
Please Note
Does NOT fit the M1 MacBook Air (A2337), the older silver-bezel Air (A1466) or any MacBook Pro. Check the A-number on the bottom case for your model.
Please Note
Fits A2179 (Intel 2020) and A1932 (2018 and 2019). If About This Mac shows "Chip Apple M1", you need our A2337 battery instead.
Please Note
High quality aftermarket battery, not an official Apple part.
Please Note
Isopropyl alcohol is not included in the box. You'll need some to loosen the old battery adhesive.

Remember
After completing your repair, calibrate your newly installed battery by charging it to 100% and then charging for a further two hours. Use your MacBook until it shuts off due to low battery, and finally, charge it uninterrupted to 100% again
Here are some tools you may need to help you complete the repair.
- T5 Torx Screwdriver
- T4 Metal Torx Screwdriver Tool
- Mechanic AK-15 King ESD Anti-Static Stainless Steel Red Curved Tweezers
- iGadget Plastic Triangle Opening Picks (set of 5)
- 5x iGadget Plastic Flexible Opening Cards
- uFix iOpener Microwaveable Heated Bag Opening Tool
- iGadget Plastic Alcohol 200mL Bottle with Pump Top
- iGadget Universal Magnetic Work Project Mat with Marker (30cm x 25cm)
Here are some helpful tips to assist you in completing a safe repair on your device. If you are unsure of something or have any questions, please feel free to contact us either by phone (0508 IGADGET) or by email
- Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or explode if punctured or damaged
- These MacBook Airs can power on by themselves when the bottom case comes off or a charger is connected. Turn off AutoBoot in Terminal with sudo nvram AutoBoot=%00, then power down. Afterwards, turn it back on with sudo nvram AutoBoot=%03 - it may need the charger connected to power on
- The P5 pentalobe and T3 Torx screwdrivers you need for the battery are included in the box. The 2018 and 2019 models also need a T5 Torx for the logic board screws
- Always track your screws to avoid putting back in the wrong place and damaging your device. You can draw a picture of your laptop and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat
- The bottom case is held by ten P5 pentalobe screws of three lengths and two hidden clips. Lift it from the hinge edge, and press it down firmly on reassembly so the clips snap back in
- As soon as the case is off, and before any component removal, peel back the tape and slide the battery connector out parallel to the logic board with a spudger. Do not lever it straight up
- Both speakers have to come out. They are held by stretch-release strips (plus one T3 screw each on the 2020 model), and the left speaker cable is lightly stuck to the logic board. Re-stick them with the new speaker strips from the box so they don't rattle
- On the 2018 and 2019 A1932 the trackpad cable runs under the logic board, so the logic board has to come out (T3 brackets, then T5 board screws). On the 2020 A2179 the cable was re-routed and the logic board can stay in. iFixit notes a T4 can fit the trackpad bracket screws better than a T3
- The trackpad cable is lightly stuck to the battery. Warm it gently and peel it off without creasing it. Never heat the cells
- Remove the T3 battery tray screws, then pull the six black adhesive tabs (three each side) slowly and flat. If a strip snaps, add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol into the wells along the battery edge, wait a minute or two and lift with a plastic card
- Do not separate the cells from the metal tray. Never pry against a cell with metal tools, and never bend, squeeze or puncture the cells when removing the old battery or fitting the new one
- The new adhesive strips come in the box and are not pre-attached. Fit them to the new battery before you put it in
- If your newly installed battery is draining fast or shutting off randomly, first try the battery calibration steps found here. If that doesn't resolve it, try an SMC reset
Caution
If the new battery or the battery in your device is swollen or damaged during repair, take the proper precautions
Note
You cannot dispose of old batteries in your general waste. Find recycling e-waste centres online or take to your local refuse station.
