• Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
• Always power down your device prior to working on it
• Track your screws, they are different lengths: two 3.6mm P2 pentalobe screws at the bottom, 1.8mm and 1.6mm Phillips on the battery connector bracket, two 1.2mm and one 1.6mm on the display cable bracket, 4.1mm and 2.2mm on the front camera and earpiece bracket, two 1.3mm on the home button bracket, and six on the LCD shield plate (four 1.2mm on the sides, one 1.4mm and one 2.6mm). Use a screw mat to keep them in place
• Remove the two pentalobe screws beside the Lightning port and lift the screen with a suction cup just above the home button. The screen is held in by clips, not glue. Lift it from the bottom edge and open it like a book, no further than 90 degrees, as the cables are along the top
• Always unplug the battery before you remove any other parts. Keep metal tools away from the battery, and never bend, crush or puncture it. Lift off the battery connector bracket and pry up the battery connector, then remove the display cable bracket and disconnect the front camera, LCD and digitiser cables
• The home button and front camera flex cable need to be transferred from your old screen. Peel the home button cable up slowly, starting between the gold contacts, as it is glued down and tears easily, and don't over tighten the two home button bracket screws or they can push through to the front of the display. The earpiece speaker and LCD shield plate are not included with the new screen either, so move those across too (steps 17 to 29 of the guide)
• Ease the front camera and sensor cable out from under the earpiece contacts with a spudger. Keep the small black proximity sensor holder: if it stays on the old screen, stick it onto the new one, or the screen can stay on during calls
• When fitting the new screen, hook the top edge in first at a slight angle, then press the bottom down until the clips snap in. If the screen stays black, reseat the LCD cable and restart the phone
• Test touch, display, home button, front camera, earpiece and proximity sensor before closing the phone, and don't peel off the protective film or any stickers until it's all working
