Here are some helpful tips to assist you in completing a safe repair on your device. If you are unsure of something or have any questions, please feel free to contact us either by phone (0508 IGADGET) or by email
- Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
- Always power down your device prior to working on it, and take out the SIM card tray first
- Always track your screws to avoid putting back in the wrong place and damaging your device. You can draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat. The midframe has thirteen 3.5mm Phillips #00 screws and the charging port board one 3.0mm screw.
- The glass back cover is glued on. Warm one edge at a time with the iOpener in short bursts (the screen and the battery are both damaged by heat), lift the cover with the suction cup and slide an opening pick around the edge. Only push the pick 4 to 5mm past the edge.
- Lift the midframe off from the top end first, then slide it down off the headphone jack, so you do not snag the jack or the charging port.
- Make sure you always unplug the battery before attempting any component removal
- Unclip the aerial (coaxial antenna) cables and the screen, earpiece and home button connectors, lift the main board and unplug the charging port board's flex cable from its underside.
- The charging port board is glued to the back of the screen. Follow the iFixit guide to heat and lift the screen out of the frame: go no more than 6mm deep along the bottom edge to protect the home button, and do not pull on the screen cable.
- Lift the two soft key light cables out of their grooves with the spudger before peeling the board off. They tear easily.
- When refitting, reconnect the aerial cables and press every connector down until it clicks, or the phone may lose signal or the soft keys may not light.
- Test charging, the headphone jack and the soft key lights before you close the phone, then clean off the old adhesive with alcohol and fit new 2mm Tesa tape so the screen and back glass sit flat.
