Here are some helpful tips to assist you in completing a safe repair on your device. If you are unsure of something or have any questions, please feel free to contact us either by phone (0508 IGADGET) or by email
- Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
- Always power down your device prior to working on it. The back cover snaps off: start at the notch beside the rear camera, then lift out the battery, microSD card and SIM card. Make sure the battery is out before attempting any component removal.
- Always track your screws to avoid putting back in the wrong place and damaging your device. You can draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat. All the screws are Phillips #000: ten 3.4mm and three 4.4mm in the midframe, one 3.0mm on the main board and one 2.5mm on the charging port board.
- The screen is glued in and has to come off to reach the board. Warm each side with the iOpener for about 90 seconds (the screen is damaged by too much heat), lift it with the suction cup and slide an opening pick around the edge.
- Keep the pick shallow along the bottom edge, where the touch key cables run, and do not tear the home button flex or the fingerprint scanner will stop working.
- Unclip the aerial (coaxial antenna) cables, lift the main board at the camera end and unplug the charging port board flex from underneath it. Peel the touch key cables off the midframe with a spudger before lifting the board out.
- When refitting, reconnect the aerial cables and press every connector down until it clicks, or the phone may lose signal or the touch keys may not work.
- Test charging, the microphone and the touch keys before you close the phone.
- The Galaxy S5 is water resistant. Fit new 2mm Tesa tape under the screen, check the back cover gasket is seated and close the USB flap, or the phone will lose its water resistance.
