Here are some helpful tips to assist you in completing a safe repair on your device. If you are unsure of something or have any questions, please feel free to contact us either by phone (0508 IGADGET) or by email
- Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
- Always power down your device prior to working on it
- Always track your screws to avoid putting back in the wrong place and damaging your device. You can draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat. The shield and loudspeaker screws are 4.0mm long, the sub board and USB-C port screws are 3.0mm.
- The glass back cover is glued on. Warm the edges with the iOpener in short bursts (the screen and the battery are both damaged by heat), lift the cover with the suction cup and slide an opening pick around the edge.
- Only push an opening pick 4 to 5mm past the edge. Any deeper and you can cut the antenna cable, the power button cable or the rear cameras.
- The NFC and wireless charging coil has to come out to reach the charging port. Unplug it, remove the six shield screws and lift the shield, then peel the coil off its light adhesive. Press its connectors back down until they click.
- Make sure you always unplug the battery before attempting any component removal
- The loudspeaker sits over the charging port. Remove its five screws and lever it up at the two marked holes. Clips hold its lower edge.
- The sub board has to come out first. Disconnect both interconnect cables from it, remove its screw and lift it gently: it has three spring contacts on its lower edge and small parts underneath.
- Disconnect the charging port flex from the main board, remove the two port screws and lever the port up from under the left screw hole. It sits in a rubber gasket and can pop out suddenly.
- Do not overtighten the port screws when refitting, as the screen sits flat against the frame underneath. Press every connector back down until it clicks, or the phone may not charge after the repair.
- Opening the phone breaks the factory seal. Test the phone before you close it up, then fit new adhesive or 2mm Tesa tape, or the phone will lose its water resistance rating.
