Product Details

This MacBook Retina 12" (2015-2017) replacement battery is what you need to bring your dead MacBook back to life!

Battery degradation is an inevitable part of your MacBook's lifespan. If your laptop won't turn on, turns off suddenly, has a "service battery" warning, has had water damage or simply won't hold a charge, this replacement battery may be what you need to fix it.

It suits the 12-inch Retina MacBook, model A1534, from Early 2015 (MacBook8,1), Early 2016 (MacBook9,1) and 2017 (MacBook10,1). It replaces battery model A1705, and also A1527, the battery the Early 2015 model shipped with. Note A1705 is the battery number, the MacBook itself is A1534.

Don't be let down by poor quality cheap batteries. Our high quality aftermarket battery is built with a Cobalt battery cell, Texas Instruments safety chipsets and high grade cabling to give you years of trouble free charging.

The cells are glued to the top case and the logic board has to come out, so this is a difficult job that needs adhesive remover or isopropyl alcohol and plastic cards. Watch the video and follow the step by step guide in Installation Help before you start.

Part Includes:

  • Cobalt Battery Cell
  • Texas Instruments safety chipsets
  • High Grade cabling and connectors
  • 12 Month Warranty

Please Note

Does NOT fit the 13" MacBook Pro A1706 / A1708 or any MacBook Air. Check the A-number on the bottom case for your model.

Please Note

Fits the 12" Retina MacBook A1534. About This Mac shows MacBook8,1 (2015), MacBook9,1 (2016) or MacBook10,1 (2017).

Please Note

High quality aftermarket battery, not an official Apple part.

Please Note

Isopropyl alcohol is not included in the box. You'll need some to loosen the old battery adhesive.

Installation Help

installation guide

Check out the video above or the step by step guide below for assistance with this repair

iFixit Retina MacBook 12" 2016 Battery Replacement Guide

Remember

After completing your repair, calibrate your newly installed battery by charging it to 100% and then charging for a further two hours. Use your MacBook until it shuts off due to low battery, and finally, charge it uninterrupted to 100% again

helpful tips

Here are some helpful tips to assist you in completing a safe repair on your device. If you are unsure of something or have any questions, please feel free to contact us either by phone (0508 IGADGET) or by email

  • Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or explode if punctured or damaged
  • Always power down your device prior to working on it
  • The P5 pentalobe and T5 Torx screwdrivers are included in the box. You also need a #00 Phillips for one screw on the USB-C bracket
  • Always track your screws to avoid putting back in the wrong place and damaging your device. You can draw a picture of your laptop and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat
  • The bottom case is held by eight P5 pentalobe screws (two 1.8 mm, four 2.9 mm and two 6.1 mm). Separate it starting at the rear between the hinges
  • Before attempting any component removal, disconnect the battery by pressing and holding the gold battery disconnect button with a spudger for up to ten seconds
  • The logic board has to come out completely: disconnect the trackpad, audio board, speaker, display and antenna cables, then remove the USB-C bracket (one #00 Phillips and one T5 screw)
  • The cells are glued to the top case. Use a few drops of adhesive remover along each cell edge, wait two to three minutes, and slide a plastic card under each cell. Leave the cards in so the cells don't re-stick. No heat is needed
  • Never pry against a cell with metal tools, and never bend, squeeze or puncture the cells when removing the old battery or fitting the new one
  • Clean off all the old adhesive. Test-fit the new battery, then press each cell down for five to ten seconds
  • If your newly installed battery is draining fast or shutting off randomly, first try the battery calibration steps found here. If that doesn't resolve it, try an SMC reset
Caution

If the new battery or the battery in your device is swollen or damaged during repair, take the proper precautions

Note

You cannot dispose of old batteries in your general waste. Find recycling e-waste centres online or take to your local refuse station.
