• Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
• Always power down your device prior to working on it
• Take the SIM card tray out before you start. The SIM card reader is on the charging port board, so the board can't come out with the tray still in and you can bend the reader pins.
• Always track your screws to avoid putting back in the wrong place and damaging your device. You can draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat. The wireless charging plate and loudspeaker screws are 3.9mm long and the three charging port board screws are 3.4mm.
• The glass back cover is glued on. Warm the edges with the iOpener in short bursts (the screen and the battery are both damaged by heat), lift the cover with the suction cup and slide an opening pick around the edge.
• Only push an opening pick 4 to 5mm past the edge near the cameras and 3 to 4mm near the power button. Any deeper and you can cut the antenna cable, the power and volume button cable or damage the rear cameras.
• The NFC and wireless charging plate has to come out to reach the charging port board. Do not tear its cable, and press its connectors back down until they click.
• Make sure you always unplug the battery before attempting any component removal
• The loudspeaker sits over the charging port board. Remove its four screws and lever it up from the top edge with a spudger.
• The board connects to the main board with two interconnect flex cables. Disconnect both at each end with a spudger, and press all four connectors back down until they click when refitting, or the phone may not charge or read the SIM after the repair.
• To remove the board, lift its top edge first and then slide the USB-C port out of its recess. Fit the new board USB-C port first.
• Opening the phone breaks the factory seal. Test the phone before you close it up, then fit new adhesive or 2mm Tesa tape, or the phone will lose its water resistance rating.
