• Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
• Always power down your device prior to working on it. The battery can't be disconnected from the front on the iPhone 16e or iPhone 17e, so use only plastic tools near the connectors and don't touch exposed contacts
• Track your screws on a screw mat or tape them to a drawing of your phone. This repair uses two 7.8mm pentalobe screws and four Y000 tri-point screws (two 0.9mm and two 1.4mm). Keep them apart so each goes back in the right place
• Remove the two 7.8mm pentalobe screws either side of the USB-C port, then heat the bottom edge to soften the adhesive
• Slide picks under the plastic bezel, not between bezel and panel, no deeper than 3mm. Work along the bottom, right, top and then left edge, heating each edge first. The screen opens from the right like a book - the two display cables are on the left near the Action button
• Lift the front sensor cover and the screen connector cover (one 0.9mm Y000 screw each), then disconnect the screen connector first and the front sensor connector second. When reconnecting, line each up and press one side, then the other, until it clicks - don't force it
• Transfer the front sensor assembly (ambient light sensor, proximity sensor and microphone) from your old screen - the earpiece and the Face ID camera stay in the phone. Remove its bracket (two 1.4mm Y000 screws), warm the top edge for about 2 minutes, gently lift the sensors with a spudger or opening card and re-stick the cable with Tesa tape. A damaged cable stops auto-brightness and the proximity sensor working
• Test touch, display, proximity (screen turns off during a call), auto-brightness and Face ID before sealing the phone, and don't peel off the protective film or any stickers until it's all working
• Clean off all the old adhesive with isopropyl alcohol and fit the new screen adhesive supplied in the box to keep dust and moisture out. Lower the screen straight down, press until all the clips engage and keep it pressed or weighted for at least 30 minutes
• This screen supports IC transfer - a micro-soldering specialist can move the display IC from your old screen onto this one.
• Once the repair is finished, turn True Tone on in Settings > Display & Brightness and check auto-brightness is working (iOS 18 or later)
