• Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
• Always power down your device prior to working on it, and take out the SIM card tray (left edge) first
• Always track your screws to avoid putting back in the wrong place and damaging your device. You can draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat
• The plastic back cover is glued on. Warm the edges with the iOpener, lift the cover with the suction cup near the bottom edge and slide an opening pick around the edge. Do not overheat the phone: the screen, battery and plastic back cover are all damaged by heat, so work in short bursts.
• Only push an opening pick 4 to 5mm past the edge. Any deeper and you can cut the antenna cable, the power button cable or the rear cameras.
• The charging port board sits under the plastic midframe, which is held by 16 screws and plastic clips. Unplug the power and volume cable before lifting the midframe off (steps 6 to 10 of iFixit's A32 5G battery guide).
• Make sure you always unplug the battery before attempting any component removal
• The board connects to the main board with a flex cable. Disconnect it with a spudger, and press the connectors back down until they click when refitting.
• Reconnect the aerial (coaxial antenna) cable and make sure the board's grounding contact sits against the frame when refitting, or the phone may lose signal after the repair.
• Test charging, the headphone jack and the microphone before you close the phone.
• Fit a strip of 4mm Tesa tape where the old adhesive was so the back cover sits flat and stays sealed.
