• Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
• Always power down your device prior to working on it
• Track your screws, they are many different lengths: two 7.8mm P2 pentalobe screws beside the USB-C port, Y000 tri-point screws on the connector covers, then Phillips, tri-point and standoff screws inside, and five tri-point and two Phillips screws on the port itself. Draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat
• On the iPhone 16e and 17e you open the phone from the back glass. Remove the two pentalobe screws, warm the edges and lift the glass at the bottom with a suction cup. Keep picks no more than 3mm deep, as delicate cables run close to the edges
• Make sure you always unplug the battery before attempting any component removal. Remove the lower connector cover (two Y000 screws) and disconnect the battery first, then disconnect the back glass (wireless charging) cable before lifting the glass away
• Apple's guide takes out the front TrueDepth camera, top speaker, battery, Taptic Engine, bottom speaker and main microphone before the port. The battery adhesive releases with low voltage, so never pry the battery out. Fit new battery adhesive when the battery goes back in
• The main microphone is held by standoff screws. Remove it gently, as Apple notes it has to be replaced if it is damaged during removal
• The logic board is lifted slightly (not removed) to take out the SIM assembly. Keep the small standin stuck to the SIM assembly. If it comes away, stop the repair and contact us
• Before fitting the new port, check both grounding clips are in place
• The connector can be tricky to line up. Trace around the old charging port flex with a pencil before you remove it, and stick the new one down within the lines. Then plug a USB-C cable (not connected to power) in from the outside and press the port onto it while you fit the screws, and press the flex down firmly over its adhesive areas
• Before closing the phone, test that it charges and connects to a computer, and record a voice memo to check the microphones
• Opening your iPhone 16e or 17e breaks its factory water-resistance seal. Clean off the old adhesive with isopropyl alcohol and fit new back glass adhesive when you close it up
