• Drain the battery below 25% before you start on this repair
• Always power down your device prior to working on it
• Track your screws, they are many different lengths: two 7.7mm P2 pentalobe screws beside the USB-C port, then Y000 tri-point, Phillips and standoff screws inside, and nine small screws on the port itself (two of them longer). Draw a picture of your phone and tape the screws to the right places or use a screw mat
• On the iPhone 16 Plus you open the phone from the back glass. Remove the two pentalobe screws, warm the edges and lift the glass with a suction cup. Keep picks no more than 5mm deep (3mm along the top edge) and don't slide a pick in next to the volume up button, where a delicate cable runs
• Make sure you always unplug the battery before attempting any component removal. The battery connector sits under a small cover held by two Y000 screws; disconnect the battery and the back glass cable before lifting the glass away
• Apple's guide for this model takes out the display, battery, Taptic Engine, bottom speaker and main microphone before the port, then lifts three flex cables off the logic board and removes the SIM assembly. The logic board stays in. The battery adhesive releases with low voltage (Apple uses a 9V battery for 90 seconds), so never pry the battery out. Fit new battery adhesive when the battery goes back in
• When you lift out the SIM assembly, keep the small standin stuck to it. If it comes away, stop the repair and contact us
• Before fitting the new port, check both grounding clips are in place, with the springs facing the display side
• The connector can be tricky to line up. Trace around the old charging port flex with a pencil before you remove it, and stick the new one down within the lines. Then plug a USB-C cable (not connected to power) in from the outside and press the port onto it while you fit the two long screws
• Seat the small lower microphone on the new flex last, in its recess to the left of the speaker seal, then fit the remaining screws
• Before closing the phone, test that it charges and connects to a computer, and record a voice memo to check the microphones
• Opening your iPhone 16 Plus breaks its factory water-resistance seal. Clean off the old adhesive with isopropyl alcohol and fit new back glass adhesive (and display adhesive if you removed the display) when you close it up
